Daxa, 41, was killed when his tank was hit by an improvised explosive device in Jabalia in northern Gaza, said the Israeli army.
Another officer was seriously wounded in the incident, and two other officers were moderately injured, it added.
Daxa was considered a prominent, leading field commander in the Israeli army and is the most senior officer to have been killed since the start of Israel's ground operation in Gaza in late October of last year.
The Israeli army announcement of Daxa's killing comes as Israeli warplanes and ground troops continue a two-week-long deadly assault on Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and other towns in northern Gaza.
On Saturday evening, a series of Israeli airstrikes on an entire residential block in Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip left at least 87 people killed and over 158 others wounded, according to the updated toll of the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
The Palestinian health ministry reported that the Israeli occupation carried out seven massacres in the strip in the past 24 hours.
It added that nearly 500 Palestinians - mostly women and children - were killed since the start of the most recent Israeli air and ground assault on Jabalia and other towns in the north of the strip 15 days ago.
On Thursday, an Israeli airstrike on a school sheltering the displaced people in Jabalia camp in northern Gaza killed at least 28 people and wounded dozens, according to Palestinian health officials.
Earlier this month, the Israeli Army announced the names of 749 soldiers, officers, and reservists who have been killed in the ongoing war in Gaza since 7 October 2023.
According to the Israeli army, at least 355 of these fatalities occurred during the ground offensive as of 13 October 2024.
According to the latest figures from the Palestinian Health Ministry, at least 42,603 people have been killed, most of them women and children, and more than 99,795 have been injured in Gaza since the start of the genocidal Israeli war on the strip on 7 October 2023.
