Al Sharq, a Saudi media outlet, published on Monday a list of the names of Israeli captives held in Gaza since 7 October 2023 that Hamas agreed to release as part of the first phase of a prisoner exchange deal with Israel.

The list includes names of Israeli soldiers and civilians, both dead or alive.

The initial swap would include all the women, elderly people, and sick soldiers still held in Gaza.

Hamas sources said earlier that the Palestinian group agreed to release 34 captives from the list submitted by Israel.

A Hamas leader told Al Sharq that the names “follow the specifications agreed upon in the previous negotiations.”

The source told Al Sharq that the seven names at the top of the list are women and children. This includes two children and their mother, who have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on 30 November 2023.

“Hamas offered to release them in the first batches of the prisoner exchange back then, and Israel refused. Then, Hamas later offered to hand over the bodies as part of the exchange, but Israel refused.”

The list includes five female soldiers and 11 people over 50. The last 10 names on the list, which Israel claims are sick, are Israeli soldiers and military personnel, including two held from before the 2023 war.

Axios quoted an Israeli source as saying that Hamas "confirmed" the list of 34 detainees that Israel is demanding to be released in the first phase of the deal without clarifying the number of living and dead among them.

Hamas has said the resistance group needed time to determine their condition.

"The group needs a week of calm to communicate with the captors and identify those who are alive and those who are dead," a Hamas official told AFP.

A Hamas official told Reuters that any agreement is conditional on reaching an agreement on the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and a permanent ceasefire.

Mediators Qatar, Egypt, and the United States have tried for months to strike a deal to end the genocidal Israeli war on Gaza.

In recent days, negotiators have been holding talks in Doha.

On 7 October 2023, Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, seized 251 Israelis, of whom 96 remain in Gaza. The Israeli occupation army claims 34 of those are dead.
