The US-Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s aid distribution has been marred by chaos and bloodshed.
Since 27 May, Israeli troops have fired on starving crowds rushing to aid sites, killing at least 45 Palestinians and injuring 305 others in Rafah and Wadi Gaza.
Israel and the United States claim the new system is intended to prevent Hamas from siphoning off assistance.
However, Israel has not provided any evidence of systematic diversion, and the United Nations (UN) denies that such diversion has occurred.
UN agencies and major aid organizations have refused to participate in the new system, stating that it violates humanitarian principles by allowing Israel to control who receives aid and forcing people to relocate to designated distribution sites—further risking mass displacement across the territory.
“The claim that this unprincipled, failing mechanism is necessary to prevent the diversion of aid is false,” MSF stated on its official website.
“This initiative seems to be a cynical ploy to feign compliance with International Humanitarian Law,” the group said.
“In practice, it uses aid as a tool to forcibly displace people as part of what appears to be a broader strategy to ethnically cleanse the Gaza Strip—and to justify the continuation of a war waged without limits,” it added.
MSF condemned what it called Israel's ongoing “inhumane” treatment of Gaza’s population, now in its 19th month, and criticized the “dangerous approach” of concentrating aid distribution in areas deliberately chosen by Israeli forces to gather civilians.
“Weaponizing aid, alongside displacement orders and bombing campaigns that kill civilians, may constitute crimes against humanity,” MSF stated.
The group also accused Israeli authorities of obstructing the entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza.
“Israeli authorities have allowed a trickle of aid trucks into Gaza, only to obstruct them immediately after they cross the border,” the group said.
This obstruction, it noted, has prevented lifesaving supplies from reaching those in urgent need—including children, and pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.
