Hamas says chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya.
Palestinian group Hamas said Friday that its chief negotiator in Gaza truce talks, Khalil Al-Hayya, survived an Israeli strike on a Hamas compound in Doha earlier this week.
"Under special security arrangements, Dr Khalil Al-Hayya... took part in the funeral prayers in Qatar for his martyred son Hammam and the other martyrs of the cowardly assassination attempt in Doha," Hamas said in a terse statement.
Hamas provided no photograph of Hayya at Thursday's funeral for the five Hamas officials and a Qatari guard killed in Tuesday's strike.
Hamas leaders Osama Hamdan and Ezzat El Rashq attended the prayers, according to photos published by the group’s channel. Senior officials Al-Hayya, Khaled Meshaal and Zaher Jabarin, identified by Israel as top targets, were not present, but Hamas said they survived the attack without giving details of their condition.
On Tuesday, Israel launched an unprecedented strike on Qatar's capital Doha targeting Hamas leaders, who were discussing a Gaza cease-fire proposal by US President Donald Trump.
The Palestinian movement has announced that a number of its members were killed in the Israeli airstrike: Jihad Labad (Abu Bilal), Director of Dr. Khalil Al-Hayya's Office, Humam Al-Hayya (Abu Yahya), son of Khalil Al-Hayya, Abdullah Abdul Wahid (Abu Khalil), Moamen Hassouna (Abu Omar), and Ahmed Al-Mamluk (Abu Malik).
