Speaking at the start of the meeting, held at the United Nations, the US president stated that it was the most important meeting he had held that day.
“We want to end the war in Gaza and bring back the hostages,” he said.
Trump also praised Qatar’s role in mediation, saying: “We are doing everything possible to bring the hostages back from Gaza.”
Meanwhile, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar’s emir, told the gathering: “The situation in Gaza is dire, and we are here to do everything we can to end the war and bring back the hostages. We are counting on Trump’s leadership to help stop this war.”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described the talks as “highly productive” and said a joint statement would be issued, but provided no further details, according to Reuters.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, brought together leaders and senior officials from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan. Egypt was represented by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that Trump and his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, had outlined a US plan aimed at ending the Gaza war.
Citing Israeli officials, the channel said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would discuss the details with Trump during a forthcoming White House meeting.
Netanyahu is said to be familiar with certain aspects of the proposal, which could require Israel to accept specific provisions.
According to the report, the plan includes steps to “end the war, release all captives, secure Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza, and decide who will govern the Palestinian Strip.”
