The board, to be chaired by Trump, would consist of roughly 15 international leaders and is intended to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza and supervise a future Palestinian technocratic administration, according to the sources.
Invitations are being sent to key countries anticipated to join the board, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, the reports said.
Former United Nations (UN) Middle East envoy Nikolay Mladenov is expected to serve as the board’s on-the-ground representative. He is travelling to Israel this week for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior Israeli officials ahead of Trump’s planned announcement.
Netanyahu’s agreement last week to advance to the second phase of the ceasefire helped clear the way for the announcement, the sources said.
The inaugural meeting of the board could take place later this month on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, according to Axios.
The expected announcement follows a UN Security Council vote in November that approved a US-drafted resolution backing Trump’s Gaza peace plan, which helped establish a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in October, and calls for the formation of the international board and an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to help secure border areas and demilitarize the territory.
The resolution mentions a possible future Palestinian state.
Details of the board’s structure and membership remain fluid, and US officials cautioned that final arrangements could shift depending on developments in other areas of foreign policy, including negotiations on conflicts such as those in Venezuela and Ukraine.
