An emergency and ambulance official told Al Jazeera an11-year-old girl was killed after Israeli military vehicles stationed near the Jabalia refugee camp opened fire indiscriminately on displacement tents in the Al-Faluja area of Jabalia, in northern Gaza.
With her death, the total number of Palestinians killed since the ceasefire took effect on 10 October has risen to 425, while the number of injured has reached 1,206, according to figures released Thursday by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
A medical source said a child was critically wounded after being shot by Israeli forces outside their designated deployment zones in the Zeitoun neighbourhood, southeast of Gaza City.
Separately, Nasser Medical Complex reported that a woman was injured by Israeli gunfire outside Israeli-controlled areas southwest of Khan Younis.
Al Jazeera footage also documented direct gunfire targeting a group of civilians in the Zeitoun neighbourhood.
In a separate development, the Israeli army said in a statement on Thursday that it had detected a failed rocket launch from Gaza toward Israel, with the projectile falling inside the Strip.
Circulated images showed a rocket launched from northern Gaza landing hundreds of metres from its launch site, outside areas of Israeli military deployment. The Israeli army said it struck the launch site shortly after detecting the incident.
Reuters quoted a Hamas source as saying the group was reviewing Israel’s claims.
The incident comes amid continued Israeli breaches of the ceasefire agreement that came into force on 10 October. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, these violations have resulted in more than 424 deaths and 1,199 injuries.
Since 7 October 2023, Israel's genocidal war on Gaza has killed 71,395 Palestinians and injured at least 171,287 others.
