The aid included food parcels, flour, relief supplies, medical equipment, medicines, and fuel needed to operate hospitals and other vital facilities in the strip.
The ERC, Egypt’s national mechanism for coordinating aid deliveries to Gaza, said it has maintained a continuous presence at the border since the outbreak of the crisis and that the Rafah crossing has never been closed from the Egyptian side.
It added that it remains on high alert across its logistical centres and has helped deliver more than one million tonnes of humanitarian assistance to Gaza with the support of over 75,000 volunteers.
On Monday, intensified Israeli strikes had killed at least 21 Palestinians and wounded dozens.
Hospitals said Israeli occupation forces have killed 19 people since Hamas and other Palestinian factions agreed to the proposed roadmap for the second phase of the ceasefire, which included a strike on the grounds of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City and another on a residential apartment in southern Gaza that killed three family members, including a four-year-old child.
Since the October ceasefire went into effect, Israel has committed at least 3,795 violations in Gaza by 19 July, killing over 1,250 Palestinians, including 270 children, and injuring 4,110 others, Al Jazeera reported.
This brought the overall Palestinian death toll since the outbreak of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023 to over 73, 356, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
The escalation came as mediators sought to implement the ceasefire’s long-delayed second phase.
The proposed roadmap links the phased disarmament of Hamas to a gradual Israeli withdrawal, the deployment of an international force and the transfer of Gaza’s administration to a Palestinian technocratic committee.
Hamas accepted the framework conditionally, demanding an end to Israeli attacks and full withdrawal from the strip, while Israel said it would not withdraw before Hamas was fully disarmed. Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Turkey are expected to meet in Cairo to finalize implementation mechanisms.
