“The good conditions that existed in the prisons are over. This is the current situation, and I am directly responsible for everything, and I am pleased with these conditions,” Ben-Gvir said in a video posted on his X account.

The footage shows a Palestinian woman prisoner describing her detention conditions, saying they had deteriorated severely and that female prisoners were being denied basic rights and personal necessities.

“This is our third day without showering. We are not receiving medical treatment, and our clothes are not clean,” she said.

The raid was not the first time Ben-Gvir has stormed Palestinian prisoners’ cells and mocked their conditions. Earlier this month, he ridiculed a Palestinian woman prisoner who complained about poor detention conditions and the lack of necessities.

Since taking office in late 2022, the extremist minister has pursued policies aimed at tightening restrictions on Palestinian prisoners, including measures of systematic torture involving starvation, abuse, and assaults, including sexual violence, as well as unhygienic conditions contributing to the spread of disease.

The policies have also included restrictions on necessities, prolonged isolation, and limits on prisoners’ contact with the outside world, including a continued ban on family visits.

According to the Palestinian Authority’s Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, around 9,400 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, including 88 women and more than 350 children.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club condemned Ben-Gvir’s appearance in the women’s prisoners’ section and the filming and publication of footage showing the detainees.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, the group said Ben-Gvir’s repeated publication of videos documenting the repression of Palestinian prisoners highlighted his role in inciting against them.

It said Ben-Gvir’s presence in the women’s section, filming the prisoners, and publishing the footage constituted an assault on their human dignity.

The group pointed to hundreds of documented testimonies detailing what it described as grave abuses inside Israeli prisons and detention camps.
