In a statement, the ERC, Egypt’s national mechanism for coordinating and delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, said the convoy carried various humanitarian supplies, including 62,500 food baskets, 463 tons of relief supplies, medical equipment and medicines, and 1,874 tons of fuel products needed to operate hospitals and vital facilities in Gaza.
Since the outbreak of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza, the ERC has intensified its efforts to prepare and facilitate the entry of humanitarian and relief assistance into Gaza, while keeping its logistics centres fully prepared.
Egypt has delivered over one million tons of assistance to the Gaza Strip since October 2023, representing more than 70 percent of all aid sent to the strip, with the contribution of around 75,000 ERC volunteers.
The latest convoy comes amid extremely difficult conditions in Gaza and the continuation of Israel’s aggression and ongoing violations against Palestinian civilians.
Separately, the Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism (AOCE) condemned far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s response to a complaint from a Palestinian detainee, describing it as a reflection of the Israeli occupation authorities’ continued violations of humanitarian standards. The detainee had confronted the Israeli authorities over being denied basic human rights, including access to showers and clean clothes.
In a statement, the AOCE said that instead of adhering to international laws and conventions, Ben-Gvir responded during his raid on the cells of female detainees at Damon Prison by boasting about arbitrary measures and collective punishment, saying, “I am glad about your detention conditions.”
The Palestinian detainee who confronted Ben-Gvir was identified as 48-year-old Hanaa Tahaineh from Jenin. She is a mother of six and was arrested after Israeli forces raided her home on 8 June before being placed under administrative detention, despite suffering from several chronic illnesses requiring ongoing medical care.
According to the Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, female detainees at Damon Prison face harsh conditions, with the facility lacking necessities for a humane life, including adequate food, clothing, and essential women's supplies.
They are also subjected to repeated raids and searches of their rooms without justification and are taken outside during peak hours in the scorching heat, the AOCE said.
