Cape Verde had an opportunity to equalize in the 25th minute when midfielder Jamiro Monteiro took a penalty, but his effort struck the post.
In the second half, veteran forward Youssef Msakni extended Tunisia's lead eight minutes after the break, securing a 2-0 victory for his team.
Cape Verde are placed in Group B of the tournament, alongside Egypt, Ghana, and Mozambique.
Egypt are scheduled to face Cape Verde in their final group stage match on January 22nd.
On the other hand, Tunisia are drawn into Group E, competing against Mali, Namibia, and South Africa.
