The 29-year-old was named the man of the match for his contributions in the game, which saw Bertrand Traore come off the bench to score a decisive penalty in the 96th minute.
“I am very happy for the entire team, not because I won man of the match award,” Toure told the post-match news conference.
“I simply put myself at the disposal of the team, I am very happy with the victory, it was not easy, but we believed in it until the end.”
The midfielder of Egyptian side Pyramids FC heaped praise the quality of the Mauritanian national team, who put up a solid performance throughout the match.
“We've played against Mauritania several times now, they're a very good team, they were well organized, and our determination ended up defining the result,” he concluded.
Burkina Faso currently lead their group with three points, holding a two-point advantage over Algeria and Angola, who drew in the group opener on Monday.
