Namibia coach Collin Benjamin believes that his team didn’t get the chance before to prove its worth after Tuesday’s 1-0 shock victory over the 2004 champions Tunisia in the African Cup of Nations opener.

Midfielder Deon Hotto scored just two minutes before the game ended to give minnows Namibia a historical win over the Eagles of Carthage.

“It’s an ecstatic feeling that I can’t describe. I am proud to be Namibian and be a coach of these players. We were never really given a chance,” Benjamin was quoted as saying by CAF’s official website after the game.

“We are just happy that we could go on the field and play a good match and win. I can only imagine what is happening in the streets of Namibia right now. This victory is dedicated to them,” he added.

Tuesday’s win is the first ever victory for the Brave Warriors in the continental prestigious competition after two draws and seven losses since they made their debut in 1998.

Namibia will be facing South Africa in their next game on Sunday before meeting Mali three days later in the last game of the group stage.

The former Namibia captain Benjamin, 45, refuses to exaggerate in celebrations, stressing that his team will work hard again quickly to continue its campaign in Cote d'Ivoire successfully.

“Tonight, of course, we celebrate but tomorrow it is back to normal. Back to grinding and working hard as a team and for our people back home” Benjamin concluded.
