Ahmed 'Zizo' El Sayed, winger for the Egypt national team, rallied his teammates after their 2-2 draw with Cape Verde on Monday, expressing their determination to reach the final and lift the AFCON 2023 title.

Egypt s Zizo, centre, attempts to avoid a tackle by Mozambique s Edmilson Dove, right during the African Cup of Nations Group B soccer match between Egypt and Mozambique in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Sunday, January, 2024.

The Pharaohs secured their spot in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations as the runners-up in Group B.

"We made a commitment to build on our qualification and enhance our performance in the upcoming matches," Zizo said after the game.

"We are giving our best to reach the final and bring home the trophy," he added.

The seven-time African Champions kicked off their group stage campaign with a 2-2 draw against Mozambique in the opening match.

They replicated the same result in the second round against Ghana before concluding the group stage with another 2-2 draw against the group leaders, Cape Verde.

"While it wasn't our initial target at the start of the tournament, we managed to qualify as the runners-up of the group," concluded the Zamalek winger.

Next up, Egypt is set to face the runners-up of Group F in the last 16 round on Sunday.
