The 56th Egyptian Premier League season kicks off on Monday with five matches, without title holders Ahly and third placed Zamalek, who played the Super Cup championship game Sunday, which Ahly won by a penalty shootout.
The season returns to a one group format, after two successive championships were cancelled midway and a third was held in a two-group format which Ahly won.
The season will be held behind closed doors due to security concerns, like all domestic matches in Egypt since February 2012, when 72 Ahly fans died in crowd clashes in Port Said stadium.
The league starts with four matches at 16:00 when Dakhelya, Gouna, Haras El-Hodoud and Petrojet host Arab Contractors, Ittihad of Alexandria, Asyoty and Wadi Degla respectively, three hours before Tala El-Geish host Al-Nasr.
