Egypt midfielder Mohamed ElNeny scored his first goal in the Swiss league this season in Basel's 4-2 win over Grasshopper on Sunday.
Elneny, who scored twice in two friendly matches in the winter break, opened his account this term as the season resumes.
He put his team ahead after 28 minutes after receiving a poor defensive clearance with a half-volley that left the keeper with no chance from inside the area.
El-Nenny scored another goal for Basel this season in the Swiss Cup.
The 22-year-old joined Basel from Egyptian side Arab Contractors in January 2013.
He helped Basel win the Swiss league last season as well as reaching the UEFA Champions League round of 16 this term.
Last October, Basel extended ElNeny's contract for another season. The new deal will run until 30 June 2018.
Basel lie at the top of the Swiss league table with 41 points.
