The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) is in ongoing negotiations with the interior ministry over the resumption of the Premier League season after the Air Defence stadium disaster, association spokesman Azmi Megahed told Ahram Online on Thursday.
"The teams must be responsible for their supporters during the league games. We want the league back and need to cooperate with the security authorities and teams," Megahed added.
Egypt’s cabinet suspended the league on Monday in the wake of the Air Defence stadium disaster, following a meeting between Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and the interior, sports and health ministers.
According to the health ministry, 20 people died after clashes occurred between the police and Zamalek supporters before a league match with ENPPI.
The EFA announced they will hold a meeting with club representatives to take a decision over the return of football activity after the three days of mourning.
On the last day of the mourning, Ahram Online contacted the EFA spokesman to ask him about the meeting that will decide the league's future. He said, "We sent a letter to the interior ministry informing them about the conditions of the return,"
Megahed also talked about the new Egypt coach who will succeed Shawky Gharib.
"The Egyptian Football Association may hold a meeting on Sunday to discuss the matter as well as choosing the new national team coach,"
"We have five foreign names to choose one of them to be in charge of the first national team," the EFA spokesman concluded.
