After losing 2-1 at home last Saturday, USM Alger keeper Mohamed Zemmamouche hopes they could turn around their fortunes when they face TP Mazembe next Sunday in the Champions League final.
“Our mission will be very complicated, but we also have the means to achieve a positive result. We were unable to do it in Algiers, but we will try to redeem ourselves in Lubumbashi. We have only lost a battle,” the 30-year old keeper was quoted as saying on the CAF official website.
The Algerian international was without a doubt the best performer during last weekend’s leg after denying a host of clear chances for the Congolese, including a penalty kick from Nathan Sinkala.
USMA scored late to keep their hopes alive ahead of the return leg.
“TP Mazembe is a great club and no one can deny that fact. We played against an opponent with more experienced players than us. The goal we conceded only worsened our situation.
“We tried to catch up, but it was not easy for us. We did our best to defend our colours. We still have a game left in Lubumbashi and we will play with all our strength to make amends,” he concluded.
TP Mazembe are seen as one of the best ever performers in the African Champions League having reached the final seven times, winning the title four times. On Sunday they are strong favourites to lift the trophy for the fifth time.
