Egypt’s Zamalek have reached an agreement with former Scotland and Rangers coach Alex McLeish, succeeding sacked Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam.

“Zamalek have reached an agreement with Scottish coach McLeish to lead the first team,” Zamalek Chairman Mortada Mansour stated on the club's official website late on Monday.

The 57-year-old McLeish, who started his coaching career in 1994, is a former coach of Motherwell, Hibernian, Rangers, Scotland, Birmingham City, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Genk.

The highlights of his profession is his Rangers' spell in which he collected  a series of trophies including two Scottish Premier Leagues, the Scottish Cup and two Scottish League Cups.

After a very short spell, former Tottenham Hotspur striker Mido, 33, was fired as Zamalek coach two weeks ago after a defeat by the team’s arch rivals Ahly in a league game.

Ahly, who have been linked with the signing of former Spurs boss Martin Jol, are currently leading the Egyptian league table with 40 points after playing 18 matches, two points ahead of Zamalek who have played a game more.
