Egyptian football club Ahly's board has officially lost its appeal against its dissolution by the Supreme Administrative Count Sunday.
The board has now lost its legitimacy as an elected body, but will continue to run the Cairo-based club following their being appointed by Minister of Sports Khaled Abdel-Aziz.
Abdel-Aziz intervened in January to save the current board after it was initially dissolved by the court, which accepted the proceedings of a lawsuit that nullified its 2014 election on the grounds of a "procedural failure."
The lawsuit, launched by two members of the club's general assembly, demanded the suspension of the election results, claiming that elections were called in a meeting that did not reach a quorum for voting.
The episode has marked the first time for an Ahly board to be dissolved by a court ruling.
Ahly has traditionally been lauded for its administrative stability, cited by many as one of the main reasons for the club's huge success.
Club chairman Mahmoud Taher has come under fire from supporters after the team failed to win any major title last season.
