The Egyptian national team's Argentinean coach Hector Cuper emphasised Thursday the importance of the Pharaohs' current training camp, which they will end with a friendly against Togo on Tuesday.
"The squad was chosen for this important camp after a good deal of thought and consideration. We picked players who are capable of applying our tactics and strategies," the 61-year-old manager said in a presser held at the start of the camp.
Cuper kept some of his key players in the squad, while adding some new faces that haven't been tested under his leadership, including Denmark-born Alexander Jakobsen.
The runners-up of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations are preparing for the upcoming edition's qualifiers.
"This is the most important period for the team because we want to fulfill our targets [in qualifying]," Cuper said.
The coach also thanked the technical staffs of the youngsters' teams for their "fruitful cooperation."
The seven-time Africa champions will meet Tunisia from 5 to 13 June.
The team were drawn alongside Niger, Swaziland, and Tunisia in Group J of the 2019 qualifiers.
