Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi will host the national team players and technical staff members on Monday after they qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1990, the presidency said in a statement.

The Pharaohs reached their first World Cup in 28 years with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Congo at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium, thanks to a brace from Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah.

They ensured they would finish on top of their group after moving to 12 points, gaining an unassailable four-point lead over second-placed Uganda with one match to spare.

The Egyptian president expressed "his happiness over the Egyptian national team's achievement, thanking the players and technical staff for their great efforts during the World Cup qualifiers," the presidency statement said.

Sisi said the players and technical staff members set an example to follow with their determination, adding that he is waiting for more success from the players in the future.
