Argentinean football legend Diego Maradona has praised the performance of Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah, saying he is an elegant player who improved his performance when he was in Italy.

"Salah is a brilliant player who can move right and left, and he can score goals using his leg as well as his head," Maradona was quoted as saying on a television programme.

Salah enjoyed a highly successful term with Roma last season, helping them finish as runners-up in the Serie A behind champions Juventus, before joining Liverpool this summer at a record fee for the club.

"Salah learnt more talents in Italy and his performance looks like the Italians," the Argentinean football great added.

Maradona, who is widely regarded as one of the best football players of all time, also spoke about the coming World Cup.

"I advise the Egyptian national team to enjoy participating in the 2018 Russia World Cup," he said.

"To participate in the World Cup is a big target for many national teams, so Egypt have to enjoy reaching the World Cup finals."

Maradona led his country to win the 1986 World Cup, and was part of the second-placecd Argentinean team at the 1990 World Cup.

The Pharaohs sealed their World Cup ticket with one match to spare in Group E after beating Congo 2-1 in a dramatic clash in Alexandria on 8 October, thanks to a brace from star winger Salah, including a stoppage-time penalty.
