Ahly are close to announcing the name of the new coach for the first team to replace axed Frenchman Patrice Carteron, according to the club's executive manager, Mohamed Morgan.

The Cairo giants terminated the contract of Carteron a few hours after the team were eliminated from the Zayed Champions Cup on Thursday, promoting assistant coach Mohamed Youssef to the position of caretaker manager.

"The management is to reveal the names of the new technical staff with 10 days," Morgan told a television programme.

"Ahly's chairman is in charge of the signing and new coach negotiations, despite undergoing surgery in Germany," he added.

The Red Devils' recent woes were compounded when they were eliminated from Zayed Champions Cup after a draw with UAE's Al-Wasl on Thursday, less than two weeks after losing the African Champions League final to Tunisia's Esperance in Rades.
