Tarek Yehia will be Zamalek’s caretaker coach for one week, club chairman Mortada Mansour announced on Friday.

Mansour said earlier that Zamalek is negotiating with a foreign coach to lead the team in the new season after he sacked Khaled Galal following a 1-0 loss to league champions Ahly last week.

Yehia led Zamalek as caretaker coach for a month after the sacking of Portuguese coach Augusto Ignacio in July 2017. He then became assistant coach to Montenegro's Nebojsa Jovovic, who took charge of the Whites.

Zamalek finished second placed in the Egyptian Premier League, although the team won the Confederations Cup at the continental level.

The White Knights still have the chance to fight for more titles, the Egypt Cup and the CAF Super Cup, in addition to the last season's edition of the Egypt Super Cup.
