Egypt winger Mahmoud Trezeguet opened his Aston Villa account but his side were dealt a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to leaders Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.

The 25-year-old found the net in the 21st minute, sneaking behind the defence to volley a floated free kick between the legs of Brazilian keeper Alisson and into the net.

He was Villa's liveliest performer throughout, with his tireless runs down the left providing great help for the hosts at both ends of the pitch.

However, late headers from left-back Andew Robertson and Senegalese forward Sadio Mane, with the latter coming deep in stoppage time, handed Villa a harsh and cruel defeat.

Trezeguet, who is one of Egypt's key players, is gradually finding his rhythm after a slow start to the Premier League, having failed to score in his first nine appearances in the elite competition.

The former Ahly man joined Villa in the summer from Turkish side Kasimpasa from an undisclosed fee.
