Former Ahly striker Walid Azaro has criticised Rene Weiler, the coach of the Reds, for excluding him from recent matches, and revealed that his chances of joining Zamalek are low.

Azaro joined the Saudi side Ettifaq FC in the current transfer market on loan until the end of the season after Weiler failed to play him in recent months, and gave him the green light to leave after Ahly signed Senegalese striker Aliou Badji.

"Every coach has his own ideas, which may convince the player if there is an explanation, and that's what I've been missing and searching for over the last six months," the Moroccan striker told Al-Nahar channel.

"I didn't play many games. I waited for a reply or an explanation from Weiler, but he didn't talk to me at all. He didn't request to work on anything to regain my spot in the starting line.

"When I had the chance to play, I scored, but after that I found myself out of the team's plans again, which is not good at all for me. Weiler should have talked to me," Azaro added.

Azaro scored just four goals in 11 appearances this season.

"What happened with me doesn't relate to the club. I have no problems with Ahly and my relations with my teammates are good. But what Weiler did was not good," he said.

Despite impressing in his first two seasons with the Reds, who he joined in 2017 from Morocco's Difaa El-Jadida, the league top-scorer in the 2017/2018 season came under fire from Ahly fans after failing to prove his worth since the start of this season.

"If I went back in time I would choose Ahly again. I'm proud of the records I've made and the goals I scored which contributed to clinching titles," the Moroccan striker said.

Zamalek prospects

Rumours have linked Azaro to Zamalek, especially after several reports suggested that Ahly wanted to release him after the arrival of Badji.

The Senegalese striker became the fifth foreign player on the squad, meaning Ahly had to offload one of the other foreigners.

"I didn't receive any offers from Zamalek. Everything that was said on social media was just rumours," he explained.

"Joining Zamalek is a complicated issue. Anyone who played for Ahly and lived among its walls understands it well," Azaro added.
