World champion Spain remained at the top of FIFA's monthly rankings, and Uruguay rose to a new high of third.

The Netherlands dropped two places to fourth, losing second to Germany despite not playing since beating England 3-2 in a friendly in February.

Copa America champion Uruguay also has not played since the March rankings were calculated, but rose in April due to the formula used by FIFA to weigh all international results over a rolling four-year period.

The Italians dropped out of the top 10, with Denmark replacing them at No. 9.

Egypt climbed 9 places to be No. 55 globally, eighth in Africa and third among Arab countries.
