Ahly defender Ayman Ashraf admitted that his side had at times lost their grip on the Champions League final against Zamalek but were more clinical after snatching a late winner on Friday.

Although Ahly opened the scoring after five minutes via a header from midfielder Amr El-Sulaya, winger Mahmoud Shikabala equalised on 31 minutes before Zamalek dominated for long spells.

The White Knights could not make their relative control count though, having squandered a couple of goal-scoring chances. Ahly also wasted a golden chance before playmaker Magdi Afsha settled the tie with an 86th-minute screamer.

"We were better in the early stages but Zamalek got back into the game with a good ball possession until they scored the equaliser. But at the end of the game, we snatched the title and this is what matters," Ayman Ashraf, who played the full 90 minutes, said after the game.

"We won back possession in the second half and at this led to the winning goal at the end."
