Ahly's influential left-back Ali Maaloul is facing up to three more weeks on the sidelines after aggravating a hamstring injury, the club said on Friday.

The Tunisian international has been out of action since picking up the injury in Ahly's 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final on 8 February.

Since then, the Red Devils have sorely missed Maaloul's marauding runs down the left and inviting crosses, with the team struggling for openings.

"Maaloul felt pain in the same spot of his hamstring injury," Ahly said in a statement on their official website.

"He will undergo a new rehabilitation programme that will last from two to three weeks."

Ahly said winger Taher Mohamed Taher and central defender Ayman Ashraf are fit to take part in Tuesday's vital African Champions League clash away to DR Congo's Vita Club after recovering from injuries.

Maaloul has been an indispensable member of Ahly's squad since joining from Tunisian side Sfaxien in the summer of 2016.

The 31-year-old, who scored 24 goals and provided 43 assists in 148 appearances with Ahly in all competitions, won with the team four Egyptian Premier League titles, two Egypt Cups and a Champions League crown.
