Egypt U-23 coach Hani Ramzy on Monday unveiled his final 22-man squad for this month's Olympic Games.

Ramzy included Ahly trio Mohamed Abou-Treika, Ahmed Fathi and Emad Meteb as the three over-aged players for the two-week global event.

"Our choices were based on our most urgent needs. We wanted a striker, a right winger and a playmaker and we picked the best elements available," Ramzy told Ahram Sport.

The U-23 coach had initially announced a preliminary 10-man list for the over 23-year-old players, including the likes of Amr Zaki, Essam Al-Hadary, Ahmed Hassan and Ahmed Eid Abdel-Malek, but he finally picked the mentioned players.

Ramzy will submit an 18-man squad and there will be four players as a reserve.

The team will travel to France next Thursday to play a couple of warm-up games against Gabon, on the 16th, and Honduras on the 19th, before moving to London on the 20th ahead of their opening game against Brazil on 26 July.

The Pharaohs have been paired with Brazil, Belarus, New Zealand in Group C.

Goalkeepers: Ahmed El-Shennawy (Zamalek), Mohamed Bassam (Talae El-Gaish).

Defenders: Ahmed Hegazy (Fiorentina, Italy), Ahmed Fathi, Saad Eddine Samir (both Ahly), Mahmoud Alaa, Islam Ramadan (both Haras El-Hodoud), Omar Gaber (Zamalek), Aly Fathy (Arab Contractors).

Midfielders: Mohamed Abou-Treika, Shehab Eddine Ahmed (both Ahly), Mohamed El-Nenny (Arab Contractors), Hossam Hassan (Masry), Saleh Gomaa (Enppi), Ahmed Magdy (Ghazl El-Mahala).

Forwards: Emad Meteb (Ahly), Mohamed Salah (FC Basel, Switzerland), Marwan Mohsen (Petrojet).

 

Reserves: Ali Lotfy, Salah Soliman, Ahmed Hammoudy, Mohamed Sobhy.
