Egyptian champions Ahly are heading to Japan next Saturday for a closed training camp ahead of the Club World Cup, which will take place between 6 and 16 December.
“The Ahly delegation will be headed by the club’s vice president Mahmoud El-Khatib, and will include 43 members,” the Red Devils’ football sector manager Hadi Khashaba revealed at a press conference on Wednesday.
The Cairo giants qualified for the global tournament after winning the CAF Champions League, defeating Esperance of Tunisia 4-3 in aggregate. They will play a friendly game against a Japanese team on 4 December.
“We are competing for the title after participating three times in the tournament, winning third place in 2006,” El-Khatib said.
Ahly will play their first match in the Club World Cup on 9 December, against the winners of the match between Hiroshima of Japan and Auckland City of New Zealand.
