The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have announced their final three-man African Player of the Year award shortlist for 2012. The list includes reigning Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure from Ivory Coast and his compatriot Didier Drogba, who plays for Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua, as well as  Barcelona's Cameroonian midfielder Alexander Song.

Toure helped Manchester City  win the Premier League title for the first time in 44 years while Drogba, who was named African Player of the Year in 2006 and 2009, was instrumental to Chelsea's triumphant campaign in the UEFA Champions League as he scored the equaliser and a winning penalty during the final.

The Cameroonian midfielder produced a string of strong performances with the Premier League side Arsenal, which helped him through a historic move to the Spanish giants.

The 2012 Awards Gala will be held on 20 December at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra.
