CAF unveils the system of the World Cup qualifiers playoffs

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) release the rules of the knockout format for the 2014 World Cup playoff draw

The 2014 World Cup qualifiers playoff draw has been held in Cairo on Monday's noon to pair the ten teams reached the playoffs.

The draw has been held in Cairo headquarters of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and created five two-leg ties between 5 highest ranked teams and the remaining 5 sides.

The first leg will be played in 11-15 October and the second in 15-19 November 2013.

The ten competitive teams are Egypt, Senegal, Cameroon, Ethiopia and Burkina Faso Algeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria and Tunisia.

According to tie-breaking procedures in the article 18, paragraph 9 of the regulations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup that if teams are tied after two-match series on basis of Results, Goals Scored, Away Goals, then Cup System will take effect.

The Knockout format:

After conclusion of second match with draw the teams will play 30 minutes of overtime divided in two times.

Goals scored during overtime period will be decisive.

•a) Team scoring greater number of goals advances

•b) If both teams score same number of goals, then team with more away goals advances

If no goals are scored in the extra-time, then penalty kick procedures will apply, as described in the Laws of the Game.
