Ahly's under fire coach, Mohamed Youssef, defended himself after the club's failure in the CAF Champions League, insisting that even Chelsea's coach, Jose Mourinho, and Bayern Munich's coach, Pep Guardiola, would fail to see success at Ahly in the current situation.
Ahly were eliminated from the Champions League's Round 16 following to a 3-2 home defeat to Ahly Benghazi on Saturday.
"We played in very difficult circumstances," Youssef told a radio station Sunday.
"Mourinho and Guardiola would fail at Ahly if they played in this current situation," he added.
In addition of the retirement of team stars Mohamed Barakat and Mohamed Abou-Treika, Ahly are hit with several injuries, with Walid Soliman and Emad Meteeb sidelined for an extended period.
Youssef revealed that he informed the club's board that he is ready to leave the club after Saturday's loss, but the new chairman has turned down his departure.
