The international striker Amr Zaki suffered a knee injury last October and was expected to resume action last month. As he still struggles with pains, he underwent further tests in Germany last week.
“Zaki will return from Germany on Saturday. He needs at least six weeks of rehabilitation before he can resume full trainings again,” Zamalek’s doctor, Moustapha El-Monayeri, told Ahram Online.
Though the additional delay worried some, the result of tests is good news for Zamalek, as it eased fears surrounding an injury some thought might need surgery that could have sidelined Zaki for a much longer period.
The 28-year-old suffered a harsh tackle in a friendly game and played his first game in five months when he was introduced for a few minutes against Ulinzi stars in the CAF Champions League in March.
The former Lokomotiv Moscow, Wigan and Hull City striker tried to play against the Tunisian side Club Africain in the CAF champions League but felt pain and soon left for Germany for more examinations.
