Ahly coach Fathi Mabrouk has praised his team after their "important" 2-0 win over Nkana of Zambia in the first match of CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
"The Zambians weren't just defensive. They used many counter attacks so we were cautious but managed to secure the three points," Mabrouk told the club's official website after the match on Saturday.
The Cairo-based club won comfortably at the Air Defence Stadium, with headers by in-form striker Amr Gamal and Egypt attacker Mohamed 'Gedo' Nagy.
The manager, who replaced Mohamed Youssef, also spoke about Ahly's next continental clash against Etoile Sportive du Sahel of Tunisia
"Now we are focusing on our away match because it will be tough. The technical staff will be watching their recent games to learn how they play," Mabrouk added.
Ahly, record winners of the Champions League with eight titles under their belt, are seeking to become the first Egyptian side to win the Confederation Cup, Africa's secondary club competition.
They now top of Group B with three points. Ivory Coast's Sewe Sport take on Sahel in the other group game on Sunday.
