After winning their first game in the CAF Champions League group stage, Zamalek coach Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam has expressed pleasure at his players' performance.

Zamalek's 2-1 home win over Sudanese side Hilal at an empty Air Defence Stadium on Saturday was much-needed after they suffered an opening 2-1 defeat to Congo's Vita Club last week.

"If we have ambitious to qualify for the semis we have to win all the coming games," Mido was quoted as saying after the game.

"I am confident of the players' ability to win the away games as well as the home games," he added.

An early Dominique da Silva header was cancelled out by Hilal striker Mudather El-Taher following a horrendous blunder from defender Yasser Ibrahim. Abdel-Shafy then helped Zamalek avoid another Group A stumble with a brilliant individual effort to win the game 2-1.

"We expected a tough game against a big team like Al-Hilal so I asked the players to concentrate.

"I thank all the players for their effort during the game," Mido added.

The Cairo giants are second in Group A with 3 points, sharing the same points as Congo's Vita Club who are leading the group on goal difference.
