Ittihad of Alexandria will play a friendly match against Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon amid its 100th anniversary celebrations.

"We have reached an initial agreement with Sporting Lisbon to play a friendly match next August in Alexandria," Ittihad's former president and head of the celebration committee said on Monday.

"A delegation of Lisbon management will arrive in Cairo on 18 June to sign the agreement and that will be followed by a press conference to announce the full details."

The Alexandria-based club was established in 1906, and has won the Egypt Cup six times. They have been struggling over the past decade because of financial issues.

Ittihad are currently third in Egyptian league Group A with 30 points, four behind leaders Ahly.

The friendly match could witness a confrontation with fellow countryman Mahmoud 'Shikabala' Abdel-Razek who joined Lisbon last January.

The 18-times Portuguese league winners, Lisbon, ended this season in second place with 67 points, seven behind winners Benfica.
