Financial crisis in Egyptian football could see the cup return

Egyptian Football Association President Samir Zaher has confirmed he is in talks with board members to resume the domestic cup tournament after cancelling it three months ago due to the January 25 Revolution.

“I will meet with board members to discuss resuming the Egypt Cup matches again to solve the FA's financial problems,” said Zaher.

Egypt's FA are bound by commercial contracts related to broadcasting of the cup, so resuming the competition could help alleviate its current financial crisis.

Reports in the Egyptian media claimed that Zamalek's technical staff, headed by Hossam Hassan and his twin Ibrahim, will send a formal request to the EFA asking them to resume the Egyptian Cup.
