Ahly's Spanish coach Juan Carlos Garrido said the team's 3-0 Egyptian Premier League win over Ittihad El-Shorta was deserved as the Red Devils made up for a disappointing start to their new campaign.

Defending champions Ahly strolled to a 3-0 win over Ittihad El-Shorta in a rescheduled match at Cairo Stadium.

A 14th minute goal by striker Amr Gamal and an own goal from El-Shorta's Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure gave Ahly a first-half lead before a curling effort from Walid Soliman after the break ensured the Red Devils had bagged their first three points of the new campaign.

"Ahly players were in form during the game and they concentrated well, so they deserve the three points of the game," Garrido was quoted as saying on the club's official website after the game.

Ahly's vivid performance against El-Shorta was in stark contrast to their timid display when they slumped to a 2-1 defeat to minnows Ragaa in their opening league match early this month.

"The player avenged losing the first game in the league as they followed the technical staff's instruction from the beginning of the game," Garrido added.

Egypt's most successful outfit Ahly, who are seeking to win a ninth successive league title, moved off the bottom of the table but still have two matches in hand, which will put them on top if they win. El-Shorta are 14th with four points from as many games.
