Struggling Ittihad claimed an invaluable 3-1 home victory over Masry to end a 10-match winless run and revive their hopes of staying in the Egyptian Premier League.
Striker Mohamed El-Morsy opened the scoring with a towering header on the stroke of halftime, but Ittihad’s celebrations were short-lived
Masry silenced the home crowd when striker Ehab El-Masry headed the equalizer one minute later.
However, Ittihad came on with all guns blazing in the second half to score two goals in the last 10 minutes through Youssef Abdel-Rehim and El-Morsy to give the club a much-needed lift.
It was the first victory for Ittihad since they beat their Alexandrian neighbours Haras El-Hodoud 2-0 in October last year.
They remain at the bottom of the 16-table with 15 points, but they are now just four points adrift of safety.
