Egyptian football icon Hossam Hassan has been appointed as the new coach of Alexandrian club Ittihad, the club announced on Monday.

Hassan will replace Talaat Youssef who resigned on Sunday following series of poor results that sent the club into 14th place in the Egyptian League table.

Hassan will have a tough mission in his first appearance with Ittihad on Thursday when they host Zamalek in the 7th match-day of the Egyptian League.

Former Zamalek coach, Hassan was shown the door after a short spell at Zamalek following two goalless draws against Ittihad El-Shorta and Dakhleya last month
