Ahly's skipper Hossam Ghaly said on Thursday his side remained the best in Egypt, attributing the recent poor run to bad luck rather than any deficiencies.

The Red Devils' hopes of defending the Premier League title, which they had won the past eight seasons, suffered a blow as they fell 11 points behind leaders and arch-rivals Zamalek.

They slumped to their third defeat this season on Tuesday when they lost 1-0 to second-placed ENPPI 1-0, continuing a disappointing run that saw them drop 21 points in 18 matches.

"Ahly are the best team in Egypt in terms of performances and organization," Ghaly, who is currently sidelined with an injury, said in a television interview on Wednesday.

"The problem is that we were unlucky during the past matches."

The Egyptian international also said he is confident Ahly will win the African Super Cup when they meet Champions League winners ES Setif in Algeria later this month.

"We won the Egyptian Super Cup and the Confederation Cup and we are determined to clinch the African Super Cup," he added.
