Ahly may have to do without Nigerian striker Peter Ebimobowei in the African Super Cup, after he sustained an injury during the Ittihad El-Shorta league match Saturday.

The Confederation Cup winners, Ahly, are meeting the African Champions League winners Algeria's ES Setif to compete for the continental Super Cup on 21 February.

The 21-year-old forward suffered a hamstring injury in the Al-Shorta game in which he scored his first goal since he joined the Cairo Giants from Nigeria's Bayelsa United in the January transfer period, having made a substitute appearance in the team's 1-0 defeat by ENPPI last week.

He opened his account five minutes before the break as Ahly took a first-half lead against El-Shorta.

Spanish coach Juan Garrido signed Ebimobowei to beef up his attack after the likes of Ethiopia's Saladin Said and Ahmed Abdel-Zaher failed to establish themselves.

Ahly medical staff announced the player will need a 10-day rehabilitation program.

The Egyptian domestic competition has been suspended since Sunday after 20 Zamalek fans died after police used tear-gas to stop fans from forcing their way into the Air-Defence Stadium to watch the game against ENPPI.

While the police claimed the deaths resulted due to a stampede, fans blamed the disaster on a "a pre-planned criminal plot".
