Cairo giants Zamalek officially unveiled their new boss Jesualdo Ferreira at a press conference on Saturday.

"I am very happy to take on the responsibility of Zamalek," the former Porto manager said at the press conference.

"I will try, with my assistants, to guide the club to titles again…. We will work hard to make the supporters happy."

"I began my coaching career when I was 40 years old, and I have always worked to achieve titles with big clubs," the 68-year old coach said. "I accepted Zamalek's offer as the club is one of the biggest in Africa.”

Earlier in February, Zamalek reached a final agreement with Ferreira to replace his compatriot Jaime Pacheco, who left the club at the beginning of the year.

The contract will run until the end of this season with an option to extend it for another season.

Ferreira attended Air Defence stadium disaster

The new Portuguese coach has stressed that he won't leave, despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of football activities in Egypt, following the Air Defence stadium football disaster in Cairo on Sunday.

Ferreira was watching his new club from the stands in a league match against ENPPI, where 20 people died after the Zamalek supporters were tear-gassed by security forces before the match started.

The match was open to the public, unlike most other games between Egyptian clubs since stadium riots in Port Said in 2012 left 72 people dead in the country's worst-ever sport disaster.

Ferreira has extensive experience in European football, particularly in his homeland. His only spell in Africa has been with Morocco's FAR Rabat in 1995-1996.

His best achievements and most successful stint came with Portuguese giants Porto, whom he led to three league titles and two cup triumphs during his four seasons at the helm.

Zamalek are leading the league table with 45 points, two clear of second-placed ENPPI.
