Ahly skipper Hossam Ghaly sustained a knee injury during his team's loss to Algeria's ES Setif in the African Super Cup on Saturday.
The midfielder left the playing field in the 60th minute as a result of his injury and Moemen Zakareya replaced him.
Ahly scored deep in stoppage time to bring back to mind their memorable Confederation Cup triumph last year but their hopes were crushed after they lost 6-5 on penalties away to Algeria's ES Setif.
"Ghaly will undergo medical scans when the team returns to Egypt to define the seriousness of his injury," read a statement on the club's official website on Sunday.
"The scans will determine the recovery time that the player needs to return to action again."
Ghaly was suffering from the same injury that sidelined him in previous games.
The former Tottenham Hotspur man has not featured with Ahly since 23 January due to a knee injury he sustained during Ahly's 1-1 league draw with Petrojet.
The Africa Confederation Cup champions Ahly will arrive in Cairo with a crew of 37 persons on Sunday.
