Ahly's squad was boosted by the return of long-time absent striker Mohamed 'Gedo' Nagy when they defeated Maqassa 5-1 in a friendly on Friday as part of the preparations for the CAF Champions League opener.

The eight-time African champions will visit Rwandan giants A.P.R on 14 March for the first leg of the competition's round of 32.

The 5-1 win over Maqassa saw the participation of both Gedo - who underwent two surgeries last year - and new signing, German-Brazilian midfielder Hendrik Helmke.

Gedo,30, resumed full training last week for the first time in nine months after recovering from his knee injury.

"Ahly's coach has decided to allow all the team's players to take part in the friendly to make use of them in the coming game against Rwandan A.P.R," read a statement on the club's official website after the game.

"We achieved our goals from the Maqassa friendly as the technical staff made sure of the players' readiness for the Champions League game," Ahly football director Wael Gomaa told the club's official website.

"The friendly is also good preparation for returning players like Gedo, Abdallah El-Said and Moemen Zakarya," he said.
