Amr Zaki said he is looking to produce a fine display in Zamalek’s Egyptian Premier League game against Misr lel Maqassa on Thursday to earn an Egypt call-up.

The burly striker impressed with Zamalek lately after shrugging off a niggling knee injury, and was instrumental in helping them claim a thrilling 3-2 win over Arab Contractors earlier this week.

“I did well against Smouha and Contractors, my performances in these matches showed that I’m on the right track,” Zaki said on Zamalek’s official website on Tuesday.

Egypt coach Hassan Shehata said recently he was unlikely to recall Zaki for the anticipated African Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa on 5 June because he ‘is yet to regain full fitness’.

The highly-successful tactician will announce the Pharaohs’ squad for the Bafana Bafana clash next Friday.

Zaki made his last Egypt appearance in October last year when Egypt suffered a stunning 1-0 defeat away to lowly Niger in the Nations Cup qualifiers.
