Ahly fined striker Emad Meteb with 250 thousand pounds due to 'his behaviour' during their loss to Tetouan of Morocco in the CAF Champions League round of 16 home by penalty shootouts.
"Football general manager Alaa Abdel-Sadek decided to punish Meteb for his actions during the last game," the club stated on their official website Monday.
The 32-year-old international refused to take the team's fifth penalty, which was eventually wasted by skipper Hossam Ghaly, saying his morale was down after he was substituted into the game with only five minutes left in regulation.
"Meteb deserves punishment and he was officially informed," the club's football director Wael Gomaa said.
Spanish coach Juan Carlos Garrido was sacked after Ahly's loss.
Hossam El-Badry is expected to be unveiled as his successor within hours.
